Laffey leaning on its side nothing to worry

Laffey leaning on its side nothing to worry

A piece of U.S. history is back home, but it's going to take a little time before the USS Laffey is settled into her new spot.

During low tide, the destroyer may look like its leaning to its right side, but she's in no danger of rolling.

Officials say it's just a matter of time until the hull makes it's own trench in the sediment bottom.

"It's going to take a few cycles of the tide going in and out, for that mud shelf to be pushed into position, and for the destroyer to settle out into a nice level bathtub of it's own," said director of operations Bob Howard.

Officials say that process should take about a month.
