Vandals destroy $20,000 fountain, reward offered

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC)- A Charleston man is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of a vandal who destroyed a $20,000 antique fountain in his front yard.

David Skinner said his Radcliffe Street home is a target because it is just a block away from some of the King Street bars.

"Trash, people urinating in the yard, constantly ripping pickets off of our fence," Skinner said. "I don't believe we would have gotten number one tourist destination if the world could see what happens two o'clock in the morning in Charleston."

Early Saturday morning, Skinner said vandals went too far and destroyed an antique fountain in the front yard.

"Retailed for around twenty grand in my antique shop and it's over there broken in a million pieces," he said.

What the culprit apparently didn't know is that Skinner has surveillance cameras.

Skinner believes the cameras show the guy who damaged the fountain leaving after the crime.

Report: Roofers steal $5,000 in copper from Joe Riley Stadium

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC)- Roughly $5,000 worth of copper that was to be used for renovations at Joe Riley Stadium has gone missing, and the project manager says some of his workers are responsible for the theft.

According to an incident report, Charleston police were called out the ballpark on Friday, May 24 around 6:19 a.m. after it was reported copper cable and rods were missing.

A representative from Coastal Roofing Co., Inc. who is the project manager told police the company has been performing renovations on the stadium since March 2013. On May 22 it was discovered that 60 copper lightening rods and 200-feet of 5/8" woven copper cable were missing from the site.

According to the project manager, one of his workers confirmed that several workers on the site were involved with the copper theft. Workers hired to install the copper would put the materials in trash bags and leave them by a dumpster which they would then grab after the project manager left.
