CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC)- A man suspected of hitting a 51-year-old man in the face with a 2x4 as he was walking down the street has been arrested, according to jail records.

Tor Gregory, 21, was arrested Wednesday and charged with second degree assault and battery by mob.

According to an incident report, the victim was walking along Romney Street on Saturday around 5:30 p.m. when he heard the suspect call his name.

Police say the victim turned around to see Gregory and three other individuals.

The report states Gregory then hit the victim in the left eyebrow with a 2x4 and ran away.

The victim was taken to MUSC where a laceration above his left eye was closed with six staples, police say.

The Citadel considering 3% increase in tuition

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC)- The Citadel Board of Visitors will be considering a 3.16 percent increase in tuition and fees.

This comes after the board's finance committee voted on Wednesday to recommend the same percentage increase for all cadets and students enrolled in the The Citadel Graduate College.

The board is expected to meet on June 8 to discuss the increase. If it's approved, the average costs would increase from $10,523 to $10,855 for in-state cadets and from $28,776 to $29,685 for out-of-state cadets.

"With state appropriations stabilized at lower levels than before the Great Recession, we are adapting to a ‘new normal' that requires us to identify more efficient ways to operate and secure new sources of revenue," said Thomas J. Elzey, executive vice president for finance, administration and operations. "A tuition increase is part of that blend of revenues."

Charleston City Council approves revised bar ordinance

(Source: charlestonbeeweek.com)

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC)- Charleston City Council has approved new security regulations that bars must follow during late night business hours, but not before making a few revisions.

The "Late Night Entertainment Establishment Ordinance" passed a second reading Tuesday night. The ordinance will require bars to have someone at the door at all times after midnight and have one security guard for every 100 people.

According to the ordinance, businesses will also have to close their doors and windows if music is played after 11 p.m.

A few changes were made before the ordinance was passed.

The new regulations will be primarily enforced Thursday through Saturday, and fewer security guards will be required for bars with smaller occupancy limits.

Additionally, bars will no longer be forced to patrol parking lots used by patrons as the previous version suggested. They are now being asked to make sure the lots do not become hang out spots.
