Pop artist presents 'Americana' work at SCOOP Studios

If you're looking for a little more art-centric patriotic display, Philadelphia pop artist John Stango presents new bold and vibrant paintings on July 1 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at SCOOP Studios.

"Get your roll on" serves up specialty sushi

Sushi lovers will have the chance to sample specialty rolls from several area restaurants Saturday night.

Get Your Roll On hails itself as "The sushi event of the summer." Participating restaurants include J. Paul'z, Zen Asian Fusion, Savory Sushi & Catering, the Culinary Institute of Charleston, Cru Catering, Local's and Kanpai. There will also be a variety of beverage options and a DJ.

The event costs $5 at the door and is being held at the Hippodrome/Aquarium Wharf. A portion of the proceeds will go towards Darkness to Light, a foundation committed to preventing the sexual abuse of children.

A Charleston restaurant will be serving up new summer dishes thanks to a revamped menu.

82 Queen has modified its menu to capitalize on the Lowcountry's abundance of local produce and fresh catch seafood during the summer months.

Chef Steven Lusby concocted the new lunch, dunner, brunch and dessert menus based on his farm to table cooking philosophy. The new menus include items like Summer Squash Fettuccine, Grilled South Carolina Peaches, a Grilled Caprese Sandwich with Carolina Tomatoes and Lowcountry Jambalaya with Sautéed Shrimp and Catfish.

Grammy winner to headline June 17 Fridays on the Point concert

The June 17 installment of Fridays on the Point will feature three bands, including a Grammy nominee.

Platinum selling artist Shawn Mullins will headline next week's concert. Mullins' 1998 song "Lullabye" hit number one on the U.S. Billboard Top 40 chart and propelled him to a Grammy nomination.

He will be joined by regional band, Simplified, as well as The Chris McCarty Band.

The weekly outdoor concert series gets started every Friday afternoon at 5:30 at the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina on Patriot's Point. Tickets are $10 at the gate.

Carifest 2011 coming to Charleston

A weekend chock full of Caribbean themed festivities will be on tap for Charleston residents starting June 16.

Charleston's Carifest 2011 will promote the cultural heritage of the Domincan Republic. The festivities will start off with a symposium Thursday night and will conclude with a parade on Saturday.

Thursday's Carifest Symposium will focus on "Identity in the Dominican Republic." The conference will be held at the Avery Institute on the College of Charleston campus.

Friday night, a Mardi Gras themed dinner & dance fundraiser will support the Carifest Children's Steel Band Project. The masquerade will start at 7 p.m. at International Longshoreman's Hall. Admission is $30 per person.

Attendees will have the chance to watch performers in colorful costumes dance to the beat of reggae music on Saturday. The Carnival Street Parade will start at the Visitor's Center on Ann Street and continue to Brittle Bank Park.
