Law enforcement to hold Friday Night Lights youth program

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Charleston law enforcement agencies are coming together this summer to offer children a place to have fun while building character on Friday nights.

Friday Night Lights will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at multiple sites throughout Charleston. The summer youth program is open for children ages 5 - 15, and will be put on by the Charleston Police Department, Fire Department, and Department of Recreation.

The program will take place at the following dates and locations:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Two Charleston breweries are celebrating South Carolina's new pint law with a bike and beer event.

Palmetto Brewery and COAST Brewing Company will participate in Pint Pedal on Saturday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

The event will begin at Palmetto Brewery. From there, cyclists will cruise to COAST via a police-escorted fun ride from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Everyone will then make a return trip to Palmetto from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. 

Full pints and samples of great local beer will be for sale at both breweries. There will also be food from local food trucks.

Registration for the Pint Pedal is required. Folks will also have to donate $5, which will go towards costs and the Lowcountry bicycling community.

Palmetto Brewery is located at 289 Huger Street. COAST is located at 1250 2nd St. N on the former Navy Base in North Charleston.

DOWNTOWN (WCSC) - The Charleston RiverDogs are hosting a special Father's Day Contest through Pinterest that will give one lucky dad the opportunity to throw out the ceremonial pitch.

The contest winner will win four tickets to watch the RiverDogs play the Augusta GreenJackets at The Joe on Father's Day, June 16 at 5:05 p.m. On top of the free tickets, dad will also get to throw out the first pitch.

To enter the contest, head over to the RiverDogs official Pinterest page. One there, pin the photo in the Father's Day Contest folder and leave a comment about your favorite baseball memory with your father.

All entries must be submitted before 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 14.

Aaron Carter to play the Music Farm Friday

DOWNTOWN (WCSC) - Aaron Carter will hit the Music Farm stage Friday, June 7, and tickets for the show are still available.

Doors for the show will open at 8 p.m. with the music beginning at 9. Opening for Aaron Carter will be Alexis Babini, Alexander Cardinale, and The 3 Dudes.

General admission tickets for the show are $17. VIP tickets, which include a meet and greet, and the chance to get merchandise signed, cost $67.

Charleston Co. to spray for mosquitoes June 5-10

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Charleston County Mosquito Control has announced they will begin spraying for mosquitoes again June 5.

Crews will take to the skies to spray standing water for aquatic stage mosquitoes throughout Charleston County from June 5 to June 10. 

The sprayings will take place between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - An annual parade celebrating the American victory at the Battle of Sullivan’s Island in 1776 will take place later this month.

The Carolina Day Parade & Wreath-laying will take place Friday, June 28 beginning at 10 a.m. in Washington Park in downtown Charleston. The event will begin with a brief church service, followed by a parade, the ringing of the bells, and a wreath-laying ceremony at White Point Gardens.

Led by Colonel William Moultrie, the Americans won the battle at Fort Sullivan on June 28, 1776 despite being outgunned and outmanned. Their victory was celebrated with the very first Carolina Day back in 1777.

RiverDogs to host Food and Bev Job Fair

DOWNTOWN (WCSC) - The Charleston RiverDogs are looking to help solve your job hunt woes.

The Class-A affiliate of the New York Yankees will hold a food and beverage Job Fair Wednesday, May 29 from 4:30 p.m. at Joe Riley Park.

Interested folks are asked to head to The Joe with resumes in hand to apply for part-time food and bev positions.
