DOWNTOWN (WCSC) - The Walk for Autism-Charleston will be held this Saturday at Hampton Park.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m.  Registration costs $15 per person or $20 per family.

The magazine says Charleston will be profiled in the feature story "8 terrific towns for history lovers" in its next issue.

It hits store shelves Feb. 21.

Ackerman Skate Park closing for repairs

A Lowcountry attraction is being closed for repairs.

Ackerman Skate Park in charleston is closing because of damage on two ramps.

Work on the repairs should begin the week of Feb. 17 and the park will re-open as soon as the work is complete.

The dog park, fields and other sections of the park will remain open.

If you've been wanting to see downtown Charleston like a tourist this weekend you can do it for free.

On Sunday, Palmetto Carriage Works is giving locals free tours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The 4th annual event is only for people who live in the Tri-county.

Happy New Year, Charleston!

DOWNTOWN (WCSC) - The City of Charleston is hosting a family-oriented New Year's Eve event this Saturday at Marion Square.

The non-alcoholic event feature live music from the Charleston Symphony Orchestra Bass Ensemble, the Lonnie Hamilton and Jeff Tecklenburg Jazz Quintet, the RMG African Drummers, Mt. Zion AME Spiritual Singers, DJ William White, and more.

They'll also have other fun stuff for the kids to enjoy and vendors will be on site providing food and drinks.

It's free to attend and it runs from 4 to 10:30 p.m.

George Younts presents A Christmas Carol

DOWNTOWN (WCSC) - Charleston County School of the Arts teacher George Younts will present his one-man performance of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol tomorrow night at the Main Library on Calhoun Street.

The performance starts at 5:30 p.m.

Star Gospel Mission giving out 500 food gift cards

The Star Gospel Mission is set to hold its annual Good Cheer Fund gift food card giveaway on Monday, Nov. 28 at 7:30 am.

The Mission is located at 474 Meeting Street.

This year 500 cards each worth $50 will be given out to families who come to the Mission.  Anyone who is 25 years of age or older will be eligible to receive a card.  Cards are limited to one per family.  

Handicapped and elderly person are encouraged to attend.  Anyone wishing to receive a food card must present a current picture ID and a Social Security Card.   

This year, an additional 500 gift cards will be given to the neediest families in the tri-county area through the pastors of local churches.

The gift cards can be used at any Piggly Wiggly store.
