Coutenay Drive stretch becomes one-way

The stretch of Courtenay Drive between Spring and Cannon Streets will become a two lane, one-way street soon.  The changed section will be open to drivers on Monday morning, September 19.

The conversion will happen in stages.  This will allow road and utility crews time to finish any additional work before the conversion takes effect.  The stages are scheduled as follows:

Lane Closure on Tuesday, September 14 - Friday, September 17 between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Fantasy turnaround call

The Carnival Fantasy arrives for a turnaround call on Monday, September 6.  Passengers will debark in the morning beginning at 6 am and another group of visitors will arrive and sail later in the day.

From about 11 am until the embarkation process is completed, a small portion of Concord Street will be closed from north of Market Street to the intersection south of Hasell Street on Washington Street.  During the embarkation, for access to and from areas just north of Union Pier Terminal, drivers are encouraged to use Calhoun and Laurens streets.

The Fantasy returns for her next turnaround on Saturday, September 11.

Bee Street closure over weekend

The managers of the Courtenay Drive and Bee Street construction project wish to let drivers know about the following closures on Bee Street for August 28th and 29th:

  • Bee Street will be closed between Wescott Court and Courtenay Drive for utility work on Courtenay Drive.
  • Traffic heading west from President Street toward Courtenay Drive will be detoured to take a left onto Earhardt Drive, then right onto Doughty Street and back to Courtenay Drive.
  • Traffic heading east from Courtenay Drive toward President Street will be detoured to take a right onto Courtenay Drive, then left onto Doughty Street, then left onto Earhardt Drive and back to Bee Street.
  • Detour signs will be installed to direct motorists.

Charleston police writing tickets to cyclists

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - It is not uncommon to see cyclists sharing the road with drivers, but lately in Charleston, some cyclists have been getting pulled over by police and ticketed.

Officer Brad Wilson said that in the last month he has issued around 10 such citations.

"Mainly for disregarding traffic signals, running red lights, running stop signs, pulling up along cars stopped at stop signs, passing them and running through," Wilson said.

SCDOT meetings regarding Mark Clark extension project

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has scheduled five public hearings concerning the recommended preferred alternative for the extension of the proposed I-526 (Mark Clark Expressway) from its current endpoint at Savannah Highway (US 17) to the existing James Island Connector interchange at Folly Road.  The remaining meetings are:
